THE BEST Atlas Ocean Voyages Cruises from Barbados with Prices on Cruise Critic

Atlas has positioned their Mediterranean cruises well, with a special "second guest sails free" sale. There is also a discount of up to 15% off each segment if you buy three, 10% if you buy two. We had one couple tell us that their roundtrip airfare from Newark to Nice was more expensive than their cruise. In fact, the line has been doing so well that it has placed a third ship, World Voyager, in service for the upcoming Antarctica season -- ahead of schedule. The line is also adding a fly-in option, where guests can skip the Drake Passage.

More about World Traveller

Their intimate-sized ships enable guests to experience port cities and perspectives that are impossible for larger ships to reach. The inviting public spaces and lounges offer cozy seating for two and larger communal areas so guests can gather with newfound friends as they meet throughout the expedition or voyage. The corridors leading to the 98 staterooms and suites are particularly noteworthy, with wood-paneled walls, maritime-inspired black and white photos that are also found throughout the ship, and navy blue-clad leather doors. Even in the ship's marble public restrooms, no attention to detail is missed. World Navigator and its coming sister vessels have been designed for intimacy with just 98 cabins a piece. That's far fewer cabins than you'll find on most luxury ships -- luxury line Seabourn, for instance, operates vessels that have 226 to 302 cabins.

Atlas Unveils 2025-2026 Antarctica Season

The balcony cabins on World Navigator come in two very distinct forms. Expedition cruises, generally attract seasoned, adventurous travelers in their 50s, 60s or 70s. Travelers on my sailing ranged from their 30s to 70s and 80s and included a diverse range of ethnicities, nationalities and LBGTQ passengers. Most cabins are either Veranda (48) or Horizon (24) staterooms at 270 square feet in size.

A flat-panel television with an "infotainment" system includes daily onboard lectures and programming. World Traveller has an Open Bridge Policy, so passengers are welcome to stop in on Deck 6 forward if the bridge is open. There may be times in destinations like Antarctica when the seas are rough that the bridge is closed to guests. Once on board, guests are checked in while seated in the Atlas Lounge with a glass of Champagne. Whatever your preference may be, it's exciting to see a newish cruise line find its niche and start to draw loyal passengers.

All meals are served in the Lisboa restaurant, with buffet breakfasts (with some menu options), buffet lunches, and a combination of à la carte and buffet dinners, each night with a different international theme. Ever-changing hot stations at lunch and dinner buffets included stir fry, pasta, and carving stations. Most memorable to me was Thanksgiving dinner, served as a buffet with all the classic menu items, from carved turkey to cranberry sauce to mashed potatoes. And finally, there's always an afternoon tea with a full range of finger sandwiches and sweets.

The intimate size of the sailing led to much camaraderie and intimacy, and direct access to the knowledge and expertise of the expedition guides as well as on-board experts like Dr. Sobey. World Navigator was launched in August 2021, and can hold 196 passengers across 98 staterooms and suites. Because it’s so new, it’s built to the latest standards with state-of-the-art technology that makes it one of the most eco-friendly ships on the seas. Atlas worked with Rolls-Royce to develop hybrid engines that don’t rely on the use of heavy fuels and anchorless positioning that doesn’t harm marine life. For the thirdstraight year, AtlasOcean Voyages will utilize all three of its ships on polar expeditions toAntarctica, starting in October of 2025 and continuing through March 2026.

Do I have to dress up on a Atlas Ocean Voyages cruise?

The Veranda cabins, located on Decks 5 and 6, have an outdoor sitting area, while the Horizon cabins (also on Decks 5 and 6) feature floor-to-ceiling Juliette balconies with the top-drop electric window. The Horizon staterooms offer more indoor living space with a small sofa and two chairs, while the Veranda rooms have an indoor grouping of two chairs and a small table and lamp. Neither of those lines go to the polar regions and so their ships are better suited for warm weather destinations, with more areas to spread out and sunbathe. Windstar's newly stretched yachts have more restaurant choices, and their sailing ships offer a unique experience. Small-ship cruise line SeaDream also attracts a more luxury minded Champagne and caviar clientele. One advantage that Atlas has over both, however, is that their ships are newer -- and again, the bathrooms onboard are hard to beat.

Significantly smaller than the balcony cabins and suites on World Navigator, they also are the least expensive rooms on the ship by far. World Navigator is just the first of five sister vessels that Atlas will roll out in quick succession over the next three years as it grows rapidly -- all with a similar array of cabins and suites. The next two ships in the series, World Traveller and World Seeker, should arrive in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Among Atlas’ optional land excursions, customizable full- and half-day private tours are available in various ports so guests can tailor their experiences to their preferences. Most guests were traveling as couples for the Antarctica expedition, but there were quite a few single passengers, and they got on well with solo travelers and other guests on the ship. The overall onboard vibe is amiable, so it's not difficult to converse with or meet other travelers. If you're sailing in warmer climates around the world, Deck 5's aft-situated Zephyr Lounge would be a great spot to meet for cocktails during a sailaway or at sunset. Other outdoor venues include the 7-Aft Pool Bar and 7-Aft Grill on Deck 7.

Like most ships its size, onboard entertainment and dining options are limited, but the ship has more than ample comfortable public spaces with large windows from which to take in the views. World Traveller's deck plan is easy to learn and will become familiar in just a short time on board the ship. Passenger accommodations are located on Decks 3, 5, and 6, while most public spaces, lounges, the Vasco da Gama Auditorium, and restaurants are on Deck 4. If you're on an expedition to Antarctica, you will spend most of your time on Deck 4 and in The Dome Observation Lounge on Deck 7. The Water's Edge on Deck 5 (at the bow of the ship) is another place you should visit while on a polar expedition. The heated seating at just 30 feet above the waterline is an ideal spot for up-close wildlife and scenic iceberg encounters.

As is typical for small cruise vessels, World Navigator has just a handful of dining options. There are no windowless "inside" cabins, as you'll sometimes find on cruise vessels. In all ports, passengers have access to one or more included port excursions as well as additional extra-charge excursions. As is typical for ships of this type, they all will have a polar-class rating that'll allow them to travel deep into the polar regions in addition to warm-water locales, and they'll carry Zodiac boats for exploring. Running from October 2025 to March 2026, the new Antarctica season offers 37 departures aboard the World Voyager, World Navigator and World Traveller, according to a press release.

World Navigator may be smaller than the four ships that make up the Azamara fleet, but Atlas has the same focus on interesting itineraries and longer stays in smaller ports, at a lower price (and with much newer vessels and more alcohol). Azamara is probably a better choice for people who want a more traditional Med cruise experience, however, with trivia, evening shows and fun deck parties. World Navigator has two main lounges -- the aforementioned Dome lounge and the Atlas lounge, which is located on the main public deck. There's also a small auditorium adjacent to the Atlas lounge that is used for lectures related to the destinations that the ship visits and other presentations. The ship will sail regularly with experts on the places it is visiting for such lectures. For instance, on the line's initial sailings this month between Greece and Egypt, an Egyptologist was onboard giving talks about the Egyptian pyramids, Alexander the Great and other related topics.

Of course, those plans can change at any time, so flexibility is essential. World Traveller is an elegant ship with beautifully appointed and light-filled public spaces. There are 98 luxurious staterooms and suites in nine different categories. The vessel accommodates 196 guests (double occupancy) and 127 crew (slightly less for expedition sailings).

Making its debut in November 2022, World Traveller is the second ship in Atlas Ocean Voyages' growing fleet, and I sailed on her inaugural voyage to Antarctica. She's a small expedition vessel with a maximum passenger count of 196, though the count is scaled back in the polar regions for a more exclusive experience. But World Traveller is not a rugged research vessel from days of yore—from an interior design perspective, the ship takes a classic yacht-like style, from wood-paneled walls to nautical stripes.

Everyone was friendly, warm, and welcoming, from the passengers to the crew. From the generous breakfast buffet or grab-and-go fresh-pressed juices in the morning to internationally inspired fare in the evenings, the meals are well-executed at the ship's main dining venue, Lisboa (Deck 4 aft). The ship's accommodations boast marble spa bathrooms with a walk-in mosaic glass shower, a marble seat, a rain head, body jets, and L'Occitane toiletries.

They'll measure the same 183 square feet as they do now but with all of the space devoted to a single person instead of two. While the suites come with butler service and extra perks like an expanded room service menu, all cabins – even at the lower level – otherwise have the same amenities, including 24-hour room and cocktail service and large spa showers. I was in a Horizon Stateroom, which had the retractable window, or what Atlas calls a Juliette balcony. While some travelers want a balcony at any cost – even in Antarctica -- I preferred my cabin because the lack of on outdoor balcony gave me a larger seating area, complete with a small sectional and unobstructed views.
